Wray Organic Market and Cafe - May Specials

Miyoko's Creamery - Vegan Nut Cheese with Sundried Tomato

Today at Wray Organic Cleveland we tasted some cultured nut product cheeses by Miyoko's Creamery, a part of Miyoko's Kitchen. Cheeses sampled were Double Cream Garlic Herb, Double Cream Sundried Tomato and Double Cream Chives.

The cheeses were very tasty and I bought the Sundried Tomatoes version as it was hubby's favourite. If you know anyone that is vegan or has a diet that is dairy free please let them know about these cultured nut cheeses. They taste delicious! You wouldn't know these were not dairy cheeses. They are creamy and go well with crackers or on their own.

"Sumptuously rich and creamy, stretchy and gooey, sharp and tangy, smoky and fresh - these words describe a delicacy that I often enjoyed before I gave up dairy products. I spent years creating delicious, kinder alternatives that would not harm animals, our planet, or our health. Today, I am thrilled to be able to share them with you! From my kitchen to yours, with joy. Miyoko"

It wasn't until I got home that I found that the main ingredient was cashew nuts!

Wray Organic: Breakfast Toastie and White Rose Goji tea

I love shopping at Wray Organic Market and Cafe in Cleveland. Located in Ross Court (a court off Bloomfield St - where Pizza Hut is located), there is a large range of Organic products from around Australia and the world. They also stock a large range of Gluten-Free products, including meals and desserts in their Cafe.

I was feeling a bit peckish, having missed breakfast and after perusing the food available settled on a breakfast toastie, made with gluten-free bread. It had organic eggs, ham and tomato. It came with a salad that has their signature wray organic cafe salad dressing.

I chose an interesting tea mix of white rose petals and goji berry. It was very nice and from wht I have read, very healthy. The goji berry flavour was lovely and I felt very refreshed.

I didn''t buy a dessert despite the fact it was very tempting. I was eyeing-off a raw dessert when someone else bought it. Oh well. Next time.

A visit from Nancy Kent of the Inspiration Garden

On July 1st Nancy Kent from The Inspiration Garden - Neighbourhood Permaculture Garden came to visit my home, laden down with two big baskets full of fresh produce from her garden or those in a co-operative with The Inspiration Garden.

The first big basket contained potatoes, a huge pumpkin, garlic, broccoli, apples, tomatoes, a pile of mixed greens and some nasturtium flowers on top.

The second contained bananas, lemons, passionfruit and oranges.

Fruit placed in a box from Nancy's basket

Beautiful juicy lemons!!!

The massive pumpkin with potatoes fresh from the garden

And a picture of a salad I made the next day using the broccoli, tomato, celery (purchased earlier), mixed greens, and tomato - dressed in a mix of balsamic vinegar and Udos oil (mix of really healthy oils - available at health food stores and Wray Organic Market and Cafe.

I have to say that I have almost made my way through the amazing fresh produce and I have never felt healthier! It is such an amazing feeling to know that everything I am putting into my mouth is organic and locally sourced, handled with love and care.

It also made me feel good that I am helping to support an amazing Open Garden and Co-Operative that is actively opening their garden to the public, running workshops on permaculture, preparing the soil, sustainable gardens and other amazing services to the public that are struggling to put good wholesome food on the table.

"It was decided to launch the garden on 10/10/10 as a 350.org event ( http://www.350.org/) encouraged many volunteers from around Brisbane to come and assist. Permablitz organised the permaculture design consultant and the “Permablitz” event, (ben@blitzbrisbane.org ) and also provided a few volunteers to join in to complete the initial work required. The Garden gained support from Transition East and Brisbane Organic Growers Inc. Bruce Ham from BOGI agreed to attend on the day and assist with soil testing and information which was invaluable for soil creation. Neighbours pitched in as well creating plenty of opportunity to strengthen friendships."

The Inspiration Garden is in Morningside, located 9km from Brisbane, and 22km from Cleveland, QLD where I live. It is near the Morningside train station which I will travel to soon to visit the garden, taking along my husband to learn more about permaculture and creating a Sustainable garden filled with edible plants, companion gardening, mulching, worms - and much more.

How can I Help?

"There are several ways you can be involved.

  • Just reply by email to say you like this. (moral support)
  • Provide professional help in the form of sessions and discussion groups at bi monthly events.

  • Contact us at the garden on 0407 059 509 if you have something to donate in the way of gardening materials.
  • Financial assistance in the way of donations are always welcome.

Volunteers are always welcome on early mornings or late afternoons, to potter around. The work is not arduous or back-breaking and is a pleasant way to spend and hour or two. Telephone Nancy to arrange a time 0407 059 509."

I love having an organic supermarket and cafe just around the corner.
I just spotted this catalogue post on Cleveland's Wray Organics Facebook Page.

I haven't tried the Organic Road nut butters but they sound amazing! Brazil nut butter is new to me but I am a fan of Almond Nut butter. ABC butter sounds like a winner to me!

Organic ABC Butter

Made in Australia from only premium quality organic imported ingredients. A delicious blend of slightly roasted almonds, brazil nuts & cashews. Roasting releases the natural oils and flavours. No added anything.

Recipe: Banana-Berry Smoothie with Maqui Berry Powder, Chia and Flax seeds

I was viewing the Loving Earth website and came across this amazing Banana-Berry Smoothie recipe that is very similar to what I enjoyed at Wray Organics. I will be printing this recipe out and taking it to "Rainbow: Eat and Drink Healthy" which just opened up in Bloomfield St near the arcade and park that leads you towards Woolworths. Enjoy!

Wray Organics Store Tour and Tastings

On Saturday 8th of December my husband Philip and I went along to our local Wray Organics Market and Cafe for a 'store tour and tastings' which had been announced on their Facebook page.

Tastings included samples of their amazing organic products which included: fruit salad featuring jaw-droppingly delicious mango, watermelon, cherry, peach and some cream; next was sprouted bread with goats cheese and cherry tomato on top; then kale and asparagus salad with olive oil, lemon juice and sprouts; desert sample was a cup of christmas cheer including organic christmas cake with christmas CocoLuscious coconut icecream, mince pie, pouring cream and cherries. YUMM!

We also tasted some Ginger Beer made with Galangal - Thai ginger; and some coconut water - which I swear by to hydrate. To end our sampling experience, those that were game were given a taste of the Loving Earth AFA Blue Green Algae powder in water - which Marion our guide has every day. It tasted slightly like nori - which we love! Loving Earth AFA has amazing properties which you can read about here.

My husband and I had a great morning and learned a lot about the huge range of products at Wrays Organics - my favourite store.

I would rather have small amount of quality than a large amount of pesticides, meat and fish treated with antibiotics; preserved with chemicals, then tinted for attractiveness. Meat sold at Wray Organics is provided by the Meat-Ting Place - an organic butcher that preserves his meat the old fashioned way - with salt and natural tint of beetroot juice.

Gone are the days I eat dried fruit full of sulphur. Of white flour bread that is so low in nutrients you may as well not eat it. Fruit picked green and gassed to ripen. Why spend money on cheap food that then goes off or has no taste.

The cherry tomatoes we tasted just EXPLODED with flavour. As did the other organic fruit we sampled.

The asparagus was so fresh and delicious we ate it raw. As did the kale and chard. So full of nutrients, fresh and organically farmed.

I just feel GOOD when I walk in and meander around Wray Organics and even better when I leave with new products to try as well as my favourites - such as the Goats Cheese Marinated; and Sheep's Milk Yoghurt.

Elgaar Farm Bio Active (Probiotic)  milk is something I will be trying.

"Elgaar Farm’s unique probiotic milk – our fresh organic milk with the benefit of our unique probiotic cultures, adding numerous beneficial lactic bacteria and enzymes but tastes just like normal milk. Elgaar Farm Bio Active™ (Probiotic) Full Cream Milk is not homogenised, which means that the cream will rise naturally to the top. Just shake well if you prefer"

I am just so blessed to have such amazing store so close to where I live.
