Using the Free-Wines app at Cove Bar and Dining, South Bank

Today is my husband's birthday and we are celebrating by travelling to South Bank, Brisbane South to dine at Cove Bar and Dining. Located on the Brisbane River it has great views and today there is a lovely breeze. #covebaranddining @covebardining #brisbane #brisbaneeats #brisbanefood #brisbaneriver #brisbanesouth #SouthBank #southbrisbane @ CoveBar and Dining-SouthBank CoveBar and Dining-SouthBank We arrive and take our seats at a booth and are greeted by our waiter who offers us a selection of waters. We choose sparkling mineral water and then peruse the menus he leaves with us. We have already been on Cove Bar and Dining's website and perused the menus at leisure so we already know what we have decided upon. We are both Librans and take a while to decide so the fore-planning was necessary. For starters we chose the Peking Duck Spring Rolls with Chinese style roasted Peking duck, vermicelli noodles, shallots, hoisin sauce wrapped in a light pastry. Cove Bar and Dining, South BankCoveBarDining-SouthBankPhilip chose the Massaman Lamb Shanks with massaman curry sauce, baby onion, roasted potatoes, kaffir lime leaf, fried shallots and roasted cashew nuts. CoveBarDining-SouthBank
I chose the grilled Barramundi with potatoes, kale and sun-dried tomato. CoveBarDining-SouthBankCoveBarDining-SouthBank I also chose the Zucchini Chips side dish. They were amazing! CoveBarDining-SouthBankAfter we had spent $100 on food we used the Free Wines app to select the bottle of wine we wanted. First we had downloaded the Free Wines App Untitled
 Next we selected the location.
Untitled Then we clicked on Cove Bar & Dining Untitled Then we click on wine selection

There is a choice of Red or White. The choice was either a Clairault Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot or Hahndorf Sauvignon Blanc. We decided to go with the white and clicked the 'Order' button on the Free Wines app. We then showed the waiter the app and that we had selected the Hahndorf Sauvignon Blanc wine using the Freewines app and he came back with the bottle in an ice bucket.

The Hahndorf Sauvignon Blanc wine was very refreshing. From their website:
Sauvignon Blanc is the signature variety of the Adelaide Hills and Hahndorf's is made in the classic Hills style. Super crisp and racy with a refreshing splash of passion-fruit, guava, and distinct lime-peel. Perfect for that chicken BBQ or crispy pork medallions.
Philip made it through most of his lamb shank, which was a huge effort as it was a very large portion. Unfortunately I could only eat half of my fish and was told that I couldn't take it away with me as Cove Bar and Dining doesn't have a license to do that. I was disappointed as I hate seeing food go to waste. The same was said about the bottle of wine that we had only half-finished. Even more disappointed. We ended up drinking most of the wine and paid for the meal. Feeling rather sleepy after all the good food and wine, we walked across from the Cove Bar and Dining to the park with views of the Brisbane River and the Goodwill Bridge. I spotted some deck chairs available and moved one over next to the other free one and my husband and I had a nap in comfort. It was a lovely day, if a little warm at 34 o C.  After a while some council workers woke us up and took the deck chairs away and we made our way back to the South Bank train station, headed for home in Cleveland.
An enjoyable day with a free bottle of wine courtesy of Free Wines and their easy to use App that allows you to order a bottle of wine for free once you spend $100 in a participating restaurant. We will be using the service again, next time in a restaurant with a license that allows you to take home the bottle. Or be in a larger party than two so that the bottle can be shared. Thai Siam, Cleveland: Roast Curry Duck, Seafood with Oyster Sauce

It's Friday night date night again and a visit to our favourite, the Thai Siam.

The lovely Josh takes our order

A firm favourite Thai meal is Red Curry Duck. It is just so flavoursome and hearty. I've eaten duck so many times you think I'd be quackers! Sorry for the pun.

Hubby chose some seafood in oyster sauce. Something he felt would be kind to his stomach. It was very nice - I had a taste.

Another Date Night, this time a Friday. We decided to go up to the RSL and listen to some live music and have a meal. It's so hard to choose from the extensive menu but this caught my eye

[ New Orleans Cajun Marinated Reef Fish, Scallops, Tender Calamari, Prawns & Mussels. . . . . . . . . Members $24.9 Non-Members $27.9 Finished with yellow curry bourbon coconut sauce ]

It was delicious and very filling. The poppadoms were crunchy and nice to dip into the curry sauce.

Thai Siam: Steamed pacific oysters, stir fry fish with ginger, chilli and basil

A Saturday night Date Night at the Thai Siam. I'm in the mood for oysters and Thai Siam has some of the most amazing steamed pacific oysters that are twice or three times larger than normal and delicious.

Afterwards we ordered some stir fry fish with ginger, chilli and basil. Another favourite dish we order over and over again. The combination of ginger, chilli and basil with the fish is a very tasty stir fry. The fish was well cooked and the vegetables also. The coconut rice that accompanies it makes it a perfect meal.

Thai Siam: Roast Duck Salad, Soft Shell Crab

I was craving Roast Duck Salad so we headed to Thai Siam in Queen Street, Cleveland. I just love this salad. The succulent roast duck and the zingy salad dressing, It's delicious.

Hubby chose some fried soft shell crab but felt it was a little cold when it arrived so they heated it up for him. He said it was a little oily but he ate most of it. He's a very picky eater, not like me.

Cleveland Sands: New menu, Steak Sandwich

I saw a sign outside the Cleveland Sands hotel that said

New Chef
New Menu

I looked over the new snack bar menu. A lot of prices had gone up. No longer $7.95 and $8.95 meals. There was a greater range and some interesting menu items.

I decided to try the Steak Sandwich.

I thought it was more of a steak bun than sandwich but it was very tasty nonetheless. A nice tender piece of steak, salad and a nice sauce. Not bad at all. I hope to go back and try out more of the menu sometime soon.

Fish On Fire: WIld Barramundi with Greek Salad and Chips

I was feeling hungry for some fresh fish and Fish On Fire sells some of the freshest fish in Cleveland, so we headed to their Middle Street store.

After browsing their fish on display I decided to purchase the Wild Barramundi meal which includes a salad of your choice (Greek salad, seafood salad or garden salad) and some lovely crunchy chips.

We sat in their outdoor eatery in the balmy summer warmth with a light breeze. Very nice.

Kam Fay: Satay Beef, Beef Spare Ribs with BBQ sauce

Feeling hungry we headed to Kam Fay for a bite to eat. I felt like some satay, so chose Satay Beef. Always satisfying. The circle in the middle was alight when they served the dish. The beef was tender and the beans were perfectly cooked.

Philip ordered Beef Spareribs with BBQ sauce. I had a taste and it was very nice. The BBQ sauce was very sticky and sweet. A Chinese variation of BBQ sauce.

Another great night at Kam Fay

Thai Siam: Moreton Bay Bugs, Cosmopolitan

Another date night at Thai Siam in Queen Street Cleveland. It starts with a Cosmopolitan cocktail from the bar. Delicious!

Tonight I felt like one of the Chef's Specialities - Morteon Bay Bugs done in a salt and pepper seasoning. Delicious. The salty morsels you pull out of the shells have a touch of five spice and are utterly delicious.

Always satisfying and the salad beneath has a nice chilli zing to it.
