Thai Siam - Deep Fried Oysters, Moreton Bay Bugs, Espresso Martini - Cleveland, Brisbane Australia

It's date night and since it is a nice Autumn night we decide to walk to our favourite restaurant, Thai Siam which is just around the corner. It is a busy Saturday night and we are just in luck - they have one table left and it is outside. Apologies in advance for the poor quality of photos due to low lighting.

We are presented with the drinks menu and I decide to try an Espresso Martini cocktail. I've always wanted to try and it decide that tonight is the night! I don't usually drink coffee after 3pm but I decide the caffeine buzz will be worth it.

The espresso martini is AMAZING. It is a mixture of Vodka, Kahlua, Baileys and Espresso Coffee and tastes like a chocolate covered coffee bean. Delicious! A great start to the evening.

Hubby chooses the entree of Deep Fried Oysters. Always a hit! Five oysters to share with a sweet chilli dipping sauce. Lovely!

Perusing the menu I decide to go for one of my favourites - Moreton Bay bugs with salt and pepper ($28) which includes a salad underneath the bugs. I could eat this every day!

The Moreton Bay Bugs arrive and I take a photo before hubby and I tear into the four halves. The flesh is so sweet and flavoursome, the salt and pepper seasoning so moreish. This is the type of meal that you can only really eat properly with your fingers. You will definitely need the wet napkins provided to clean up the mess on completion.

We decide that an entree and main was more than enough to sate us after the Twelve Boar Buffalo Wings with Sweet Potato Fries and Coleslaw for lunch. The bill arrives and we leave happily, another great date night at Thai Siam Cleveland.

Thai Siam: Mud Crab: salt and pepper; ginger and shallot

After seeing a photo of a mud crab on Thai Siam's Facebook page I asked the owner, Anna, if she would let me know when they got more in. I love mud crab and it had been far too long since the last time I had eaten it.

I received a phone call from Anna letting me know that they had mud crab in stock. I made a booking for Saturday night and waited with great anticipation for my mud crab meal.

When Lam came out with the crabs I almost swooned. Look at those huge crabs full of succulent crab meat!

While we waited we ordered some steamed dim sims

After a short while our crabs arrive.  They smelled amazing!

The crab meat was as sweet and flavoursome as I had hoped. I had the mud crab cooked fried in salt and pepper; hubby's crab was cooked with ginger and shallots. I tasted a bit of each and I preferred the salt and pepper. I enjoyed every last morsel and had so much fun prying out the flesh.  Hubby loved his crab and said that it was the most delicious since the one he had eaten in Penang. That's high praise from him.

A delicious meal that we will long savour.

Thai Siam Restaurant: Deep fried oysters, salt & pepper Moreton Bay bugs

A cold Winter's night and I was craving the Thai Siam's deep fried oysters.

Hubby agreed that it was a good idea to brave the weather and dine at our favourite restaurant in Cleveland.

We had ordered the deep fried oysters before and kept oohing and aahing with happiness.

We just love our seafood, and most especially oysters. My Father once tended an oyster lease and I would eat the oysters fresh off the rocks, swished in salt water and straight down my mouth. Yumm! But I digress. We quickly order the oysters from the entrees menu.

Apologies for the flash flare but we were sitting outside and the level of light demanded a flash be used.

The oysters are so plump and delicious, double the size of normal oysters. All too soon they were gone.

Next we ordered some Moreton Bay bugs with salt and pepper ($28).

I had been wanting to try them for a long time and I decided tonight was the night.

The restaurant was busy so we had a wait after our oysters but we didn't mind. The smell was amazing when they arrived. Four half Moreton Bay bugs sitting on a fresh salad with tomato,  salad and chilli.

The flesh pulled out of the shells easily, sweet and delicious with a flavour of garlic, salt and pepper. I picked as much as I could out of the shell, nibbling at the crispy legs which were crunchy and nicely seasoned with salt and pepper. I could have ordered another portion - it was THAT good!

The salad was fresh, peppered with chilli that gave a nice gentle warmth. Very nice accompaniment.

Another great night at the Thai Siam. We talked to Anna Luam about ordering a  mud crab  special for next week. I keep seeing photos of cooked mud crabs on the Thai Siam Facebook page and when I go into the restaurant the special isn't on.

I also conversed with her about MenuLog, a website where you can order meals from restaurants online. She said she would look into it. More on that later.

Thai Siam , Cleveland - many return visits

I can't count how many times I have visited Thai Siam since we moved to Cleveland three (3) years  ago. It's just THAT good. We love our duck and seafood which is why the following menu items feature them.
[ Duck Salad ]

[ Singapore noodles $12 ]
[ Baby Snapper with salt and pepper seasoning (served whole) ]
Apart from their amazing menu, Thai Siam also has a great wine and beer list and some amazing cocktails. I have loved everything I have tried, especially the French Martini.

They have a lunch menu (priced $9-15) which features many of their house specialties in a lunch meal portion. Meals include:  Laksa Seafood rice noodle soup ($15); Pad Thai noodles with chicken ($12) , Stir fried beef with chilli, garlic and basil ($12);  Beef with Thai massaman curry ($12) ; Pork with red Thai curry; Chicken with green Thai curry ($12), Fish with yellow Thai curry,  Thai beef salad ($10), Roast duck salad ($16); Vegetarian meals ($10); Fried Rice with pork and prawns ($12);  Thai chicken fried rice $10)

Thai SIam is located in Queen Street, parallel with Middle Street. You can see the Woolworths car park from the front door. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant that caters to Thai and Cambodian cuisine.

[ Mixed entree ]

A wonderful selection of entrees including satay chicken, coconut prawn, spring roll and dim sim.

Next we order Thai Red Curry duck and rice. My favourite Thai meal. I can always count on the duck being succulent and the red curry sauce to make me feel warm all over. Delicious.

Thai Siam, Cleveland - Jungle Curry pork

Another visit to Thai Siam and as usual we are welcomed warmly and seated.

We start with a serve Sang choy bow which includes two lettuce leaves filled with duck mince.

Working my way through the menu at Thai Siam, I decided to try the jungle curry rather than red curry for a main this time. There was a nice heat to the curry and it hit the spot. Delicious.
